SAPTARI: A two-day Indigenous Nationalities Literature Festival has begun in Gangajali, Saptakoshi Municipality-5, Saptari district, with a focus on protecting indigenous languages, literature and cultural heritage.

The festival was inaugurated by Madhesh Province Chief Surendra Labh Karna on Saturday.

The programme aims to create awareness about the importance of preserving traditional knowledge, cultural practices, literature and the identities of indigenous communities.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Karna stressed that languages, arts and traditions are important parts of Nepal's national identity. He called on communities and relevant institutions to work together to protect these cultural assets for future generations.

The festival includes discussions on indigenous rights, traditional practices, literature and the challenges faced by different communities in preserving their identities.

Traditional dances, music and cultural performances are also part of the programme.

Organisers say the event provides an opportunity for writers, artists, students and community representatives to exchange ideas and strengthen cultural understanding.

The festival is expected to conclude on Sunday.
