CANBERRA, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has arrived in Antigua and Barbuda to participate in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

During the visit, Albanese is expected to meet King Charles III and several international leaders, including British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

The meeting provides an opportunity for Commonwealth countries to discuss shared challenges, international cooperation and economic development.

However, Albanese's overseas visit comes at a time when Australians are facing growing concerns about the cost of living and rising inflation.

Opposition representatives have questioned the timing of the trip, arguing that the government should focus more on domestic economic challenges.

Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles has defended the visit, saying that participation in Commonwealth meetings is an important part of Australia's international responsibilities.

The Reserve Bank of Australia is also preparing for an important interest-rate decision this week, as inflation continues to put pressure on households.

The Commonwealth meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for Australia to strengthen diplomatic relationships and discuss issues affecting member countries.
