Nepal's Exports Cross Rs 114 Billion in First Three Months
Nepal's exports increased by 57.03% in the first quarter of fiscal year 2026/27. However, imports rose by 38.18%, leaving the country with a larger trade deficit

KATHMANDU, Oct 28, 2026
Nepal exported goods worth Rs 114.28 billion during the first three months of the current fiscal year, marking a strong rise compared with the same period last year.
According to data from the Department of Customs, exports increased by 57.03% from Rs 72.78 billion recorded during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
The growth is a positive sign for Nepal's export sector. If the trend continues, the country could exceed its previous annual export record.
However, imports also increased sharply. Nepal imported goods worth Rs 646.78 billion during the first quarter, up from Rs 468 billion a year earlier. This represents a rise of 38.18%.
As a result, the country's total foreign trade reached Rs 761.07 billion, an increase of 40.71% compared with the same period last year.
Despite stronger exports, Nepal's trade deficit widened to Rs 532.49 billion, up 34.71% from Rs 395 billion in the previous year's first quarter.
The figures show that Nepal is selling more goods abroad but continues to spend much more on imported products.
A sustained increase in exports could help the country earn more foreign currency and create opportunities for local businesses. However, reducing the gap between imports and exports remains a major economic challenge.
The latest figures cover the first three months of fiscal year 2026/27, from mid-July to mid-October.
