Passengers Can Now Watch Live Baggage Handling at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport
Tribhuvan International Airport has introduced a live video feed of its baggage-handling area in the international arrivals hall. The new facility allows arriving passengers to watch their luggage being unloaded from aircraft and moved towards the baggage carousel, helping them understand the process and estimate waiting times.

KATHMANDU. Passengers arriving at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) can now watch the baggage-handling process through a live video feed displayed in the international arrivals hall, in a move aimed at making airport services more transparent and passenger-friendly.
Under the new arrangement, screens installed in the baggage claim area show live footage of the baggage drop area, where luggage is unloaded from aircraft before being transferred towards the baggage conveyor belts.
The facility is expected to help passengers arriving on international flights understand the progress of baggage handling and estimate how long they may have to wait before collecting their belongings.
Previously, passengers had no direct way to see what was happening after their luggage was unloaded from an aircraft. They often had to wait at the baggage carousel without knowing whether their bags had been unloaded or were still being processed.
With the introduction of the live feed, passengers can now observe the baggage-handling activity from the arrivals hall itself. The system is expected to reduce uncertainty and make the waiting process more convenient.
A Step Towards More Transparent Airport Services
The live-feed facility has been introduced as part of efforts to improve passenger services and make airport operations more technology-friendly.
According to reports citing the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, the initiative was introduced under the leadership of Minister Khadkaraj Poudel, popularly known as Ganesh.
The new arrangement provides passengers with visual information about baggage movement rather than requiring them to wait without updates.
The facility is also expected to improve transparency in baggage management and contribute to a more organised arrival experience.
Passengers on International Flights to Benefit
The live-feed service is available in the baggage collection section of the international arrivals hall. It allows passengers arriving from international destinations to view activities in the baggage drop area.
The system does not replace individual baggage tracking or provide a precise arrival time for each suitcase. Instead, it gives passengers a live visual update on the overall unloading process, helping them estimate the waiting time.
Improving the Passenger Experience
Baggage collection is an important part of the arrival experience at any international airport. Delays and a lack of information can cause inconvenience, particularly when passengers have connecting transport arrangements or are travelling with children and elderly family members.
The introduction of the live-feed system is expected to address part of this problem by making the baggage-handling process more visible to passengers.
The initiative represents another step towards improving service delivery at Nepal's main international airport through the use of technology.
Passengers will still need to collect their luggage from the designated baggage carousel and follow the airport's normal customs and exit procedures.
